CPL 2026: Falcons beat Tridents by 30 runs to top points table

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons have risen to the top position in the points table of Caribbean Premier League 2026 after defeating Barbados Tridents in the 16th Match of the series.

The match was played on August 25, 2026 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua and Barbuda.

Falcons were put in to bat first as they scored a total of 155 runs for five wickets in 20 overs and set a target of 156 for the Tridents. Tridents, however played for 18 overs and scored 125 runs before getting all out.

For Falcons, Amir Jangoo scored 26 off 27 balls, Karima Gore scored 27 off 23, Hasan Nawaz scored 7 off 11, Moeen Ali scored 56 off 37, Shadab Khan scored 7 off 8, Shamar Springer 19 off 16 and Rakheem Cornwall got out on the first ball, scoring 0.

For Tridents, Zachary Carter scored 17 off 10, Shian Brathwaite scored 7 off 14, Quinton de Kock scored 16 off 13, Rivaldo Clarke scored 27 off 26, Kevlon Anderson scored 22 off 16, Chris Green scored 9 off 9, Gudakesh Motie scored 2 off 2, Daniel Sams scored 9 off 11, Mujeeb Ur Rahman scored 5 off 5, and both Ramon Simmonds and Sherfane Rutherford got out on the first ball, scoring 0.

Joshua James of Antigua and Barbuda Falcons claimed the title of Player of the Match by taking 3 wickets for 18 runs in the 3 overs.

During a post-match interview, James was asked about his favourite wicket today, to which he replied, “I would say Sherfane Rutherford. I know he's a very dangerous man, so to get him first ball was very special for me.”

Barbados Tridents is currently number five on the CPL 2026 points table with 4 points, while the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons lead the table with 8 points.

Match 17 of the series is scheduled on August 26, between the Trinbago Knight Riders and St Lucia Kings. Falcons will next face St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the 21st match of CPL, scheduled on August 30.
