We are now under Tropical Storm Elsa warning, says PM Skerrit

Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit made his significant statement on Hurricane Elsa for informing the people. He said that last night windshield of Tropical Storm Elsa increased to 140 miles outward from its center, which stated the issuance of a tropical storm watch for Dominica.
PM said, "As Elsa was expected to pass 130 miles from south of Dominica & at 7: 45 am on Friday, July 2nd, 2021, the national hurricane center, informed that Elsa had developed into the category one hurricane."
He further noted that based on 'Barbados metrological Services' information, Dominica would be placed in a tropical storm warning, which means tropical effects are expected to come in the Island in the next few hours. 
Prime Minister also issued some advisory for his people through a video message, according to which he said, "As per National Disaster management, he recommended, all the business has been suspended, people are advised to stay at their home."

Also, he stated that those in vulnerable areas are advised to limit their outdoors activities & exercise caution .

He also appealed to people that there is no need to panic, but he also advised taking all significant cautions seriously.

PM also added that we had had previous experiences of such storms, and he urged citizens and residents that they should not take the advisory lightly.

The 2021 Atlantic hurricane season has become off to a record-setting pace with five named storms. Also now, Elsa, one of that early spate of storms, has become the season’s 1st hurricane.

Elsa became a tropical storm on Thursday & ramped up to a hurricane by Friday morning just as it neared Barbados. The storm is carrying winds of 75 mph (120 kph), creating it a Category 1 hurricane. Hurricane-force winds lashed Barbados, though Hurricane Elsa technically didn’t make landfall for the eye took a turn simply to the south of the island.

Notably, Hurricane warnings are in place for Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. A hurricane watch is in effect for the southern portion of Haiti from Port Au Prince to the southern border, including the Dominican Republic.

Haiti, Martinique, Dominica and the southern coast of the Dominican Republic are included in tropical storm warnings. A tropical storm watch is in effect for Grenada & its dependencies, Saba and Saint Eustatius and Jamaica.
