Man accused of bingo robbery found dead after police operation in St. Vincent

St Vincent and the Grenadines: A 52-year-old labourer, who was accused of robbing a bingo game, was found dead with an apparent gunshot wound in Mesopotamia on Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Michael Jackson of Yambou.

According to the police reports, Jackson reportedly entered the event with a cutlass and escaped with an unknown amount of money. He was later shot and killed during a police operation.

Preliminary information indicates that the incident occurred sometime after 11:00 p.m. in the vicinity of the Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Jackson was transported to the Levi Latham Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead, stated the police force via an official press release on their Facebook page.

However, the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force has not released any statement confirming those accounts yet. They have also not released any explanation on how the shooting happened or what caused the officers to reportedly use deadly force.

Video from the scene is being shared online, which showed the deceased’s body after the incident took place. A team from a funeral home was later seen removing Jackson’s body from the site. A post-mortem examination has been scheduled at a later date.

The RSVG Police Force has also offered their condolences to the family of the victim. The press release read, “The Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force extends condolences to Mr. Jackson’s family and loved ones. Further information will be provided when appropriate.”

This fatal shooting has been recorded as the 30th homicide in St Vincent and the Grenadines this year.

Locals have taken to social media calling the authorities for more information on the case. One individual commented, “Everyday someone is being killed by gun violence. Svg is not safe anymore. The police should submit bodycam footage for evidence.”

Another person stated, “Threatening with an offensive weapon and got the banger. Still, many condolences to the family and friends.”
