Saint Lucia should close borders to stop COVID-19: Dr Keith Mondesir
Friday, 23rd October 2020
Keith Mondesir, the formal health minister of Saint Lucia, called the authorities to close down the borders of the country and isolate the communities of Aux Lyon in Dennery.
Dr Keith Mondesir stated that this action should be taken to control the spread of coronavirus in the country. He also emphasised on adopting the Chinese style to stop the contamination of the contagious disease and stated that following their foot-steps Saint Lucia should cut off the area with a higher number of infections.
This statement of Modesir came shortly after the announcement of three new coronavirus cases by the Chief Medical Officer Dr Sharon Balmar-George.
“It’s operating very great for China – you just cut off the area you believe that the most contaminations are coming from, isolate the people in there, do all your examinations, and then you comprehend what’s occurring with the rest of the Island,”
Modesir noted that during the spread of coronavirus, China used to block an area with higher contamination of the virus. He demanded the Saint Lucian authorities to increase the strict measures if required.
He observed that because Saint Lucia has restricted means to deal with a problematic COVID-19 position and people do not have massive houses in which they can keep social distancing, the Island’s borders should be sealed.
“Shut down all forms of contact from the outer world,” Mondesir indicated.
He mentioned that Saint Lucia is currently accepting travellers from Europe and North America. Mondesir noted that COVID-19 cases from those two regions of the globe are escalating daily.
