St Kitts and Nevis all set to reopen its international borders from October 31
The government of St Kitts and Nevis announced to reopen the borders of St Kitts and Nevis from October 31 onwards, Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris made this announcement on Thursday in a press conference. Prime Minister Dr Harris stated that due to unprecedented situation occurred because of COVID-19, St Kitts and Nevis is dealing with twin-crisis, pandemic and the deep economic crisis. "We open our borders for not just tourists, but for all hoteliers. We do this to allow our own national abroad as an opportunity to return home to their families, jobs and communities in a more regular manner." announced the Prime Minister. He also stated that with the reopening of borders, the country also allows hotels to open up again to visitors and other guests. In order to ensure the safety of the people arriving in the country, over 3458 people in the hotel industry have been trained to work safely in COVID0-19 environment. "Our positive growth trajectory in the first-quarter pf 2020 was interrupted with the announcement of COVID-19 on March 25" added Dr Harris. Furthermore, the Prime Minister stated that the government's early strong action, including closing the borders of the country and practice of strict health-protocols have been helpful in the containment of COVID-19 in the twin-island nation. He added that St Kitts and Nevis confirmed nineteen COVID-19 cases and 17 people have already recovered. Prime Minister claimed that St Kitts and Nevis had one of the lowest numbers of coronavirus cases in the world. "We are considered very low-risk travel destination—the careful management of the pandemic allowed to reopen all sectors of the economy." stated the Prime Minister. Besides this, he advised people to follow all the guidelines related to COVID-19, including wearing face masks in public, frequent handwashes, physical and social distancing as the country prepares to reopen its borders.
