Jamaica: Man brutally stabbed in neck at a government office, incident raises security concerns

After being stabbed in the neck on Tuesday afternoon, an employee of the National Museum of Jamaica is now fighting for his life at the Kingston Public Hospital.
The assault is said to have occurred shortly after 2 p.m. inside the victim's office on East Street in downtown Kingston.
According to information obtained by local media, the victim was discovered lying in a pool of blood by a security guard on his rounds at the Museum.
Deputy Superintendent Berrisford Williams of the Central Kingston Officers Station verified the crime, saying that police are following multiple leads to apprehend the perpetrator, who has been on the run since.
"We hear that the victim and the suspected perpetrator were embroiled in a heated argument enraged, the accused grabbed for a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck,"
"As we speak, the suspect is being sought, and he has been urged to give himself in to the police as soon as possible," he said.
According to Onica Grannum, director of development and public relations at the Institute of Jamaica, which manages the museum's activities, the victim is a very cheery and soft-spoken person who has been traumatised by the attack.
"I've never heard of him being involved in anything like this." We've all been affected by the occurrence. We are dissatisfied with the entire situationI spoke with several of my employees who were frightened by what happened, and I told them they may leave work early," she said.
Grannum stated that they were unaware of the extent of their colleague's illness.
