Paintings of local Dominican artist Kelvin James goes viral on Facebook
A local artist from Dominica, Kelvin James, created several artworks showcasing the sights and scenes of Portsmouth.

A local artist from Dominica, Kelvin James, created several artworks showcasing the sights of Portsmouth. The unique and real-looking sketches are making rounds on social media, impressing the netizens with the overall look of the paintings.
The colourful sceneries comprising of people working on the beach, a yacht, an abandoned house and the Caribbean Sea have all been created by the local artist. ( All my paintings are my kids)."
The netizens are pouring their love for the sketches and are wowed with how real all of them look and with the faces of real people being so expressive. [caption id="attachment_70506" align="aligncenter" width="405"] Real people sketch by the artist[/caption] Kelvin James from Dominica is a self-taught artist, and according to him, his inspiration comes from the vibrant colors of the Caribbean. He uses acrylic paints to capture the way the sun illuminates the everyday. While appreciating the huge talent of the artist, netizens took to Facebook and called the work 'brilliant', while some also said that they will be purchasing some of his art."I am coming for three paintings. That's talent," wrote a user named Thecla Lewis, while another user named Jefferson said, "That is what you call an artist."
"These are drawings? He hasn't missed a detail. That's awesome," wrote another user named Lewis Sweetness. On the other hand, many of the users asked for the prices of the paintings and wanted to know whether or not they were available for purchase.
Born in Portsmouth, Dominica, the artist is presently residing in Georgia, United States. Recently, in December 2023, he won second price in the Plein Air (live painting) competition.
While sharing a glimpse from the competition on his official Facebook account, Kelvin James stated, "Forgot to post but I won second place in this Plein air ( live painting) competition in my city couple weeks ago. I did not finish but managed to pull off second place. This was my first competition."
The artist also drew a sketch of a local welder for Portsmouth, and the netizens said that it was just amazing to watch someone capture that facial expression from memory. This shows James fine hand over his amazing work.
