The 23-year-old assailant was wounded in a gunfight with a Maryland state trooper while attempting to flee in a car, according to Washington County Sheriff Douglas Mullendore at a press conference.
In the latest in a string of mass shootings in the United States, both the suspect and the trooper were taken to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.Mullendore refused to go into detail about the circumstances or suspected motives for the attack, but stated the gunman and all of his victims worked at Columbia Machine in Smithsburg, Maryland, near the Pennsylvania state line.

He claimed the shooter was armed with a semi-automatic weapon. A Columbia Machine spokeswoman said the company is assisting authorities with their investigation into the shooting but gave no details.
According to its website, the company provides concrete producing equipment to customers in over 100 countries.
The FBI and the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives both announced that agents will be dispatched to the location.
Mass shootings in the US are increasing due to inefficient gun laws. As per the Federal data, in 2020, more than 45,000 Americans lost their lives due to the barrel of a gun, either by homicide or suicide. It is the highest recorded data ever. According to a renowned research organisation located in Switzerland, 390 million weapons were in circulation in 2018. Recent research also suggests that gun ownership has increased dramatically in recent years. Between January 2019 and April 2021, 7.5 million US individuals - little under 3% of the population - became first-time gun owners, according to a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in February.Latest
