Haiti: After the assassination of President Jovenel Moise United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is likely to convene a meeting on Thursday to address the situation in Haiti. President Moise was assassinated at his private residence by a group of unnamed gunmen on Wednesday at around 1:00 am. Following the assassination, Haiti announced a state of emergency. "Maybe, tomorrow, I believe, we will discuss Haiti," French Ambassador and President of the Security Council Nicolas de Riviere de Riviere told reporters on Wednesday. While four suspected killers of Jovniel Moise were fatally shot by police and two others were arrested, Associated Press reported citing Haiti Police Chief Léon Charles. 3 police officers who had been held hostage were freed in the incident, AP said. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the assassination of Moise, while the UNSC expressed deep shock, sorrow and sympathy over Moise's death. The whole world top leaders in deep shock after this assassination incident; CARICOM leaders and others paid tribute to him. "The perpetrators of this crime must be made to justice. The United Nations will proceed to stand with the Government and the people of Haiti," Guterres' spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement. Addressing for the Security Council, de Riviere showed his deep shock, sorrow and sympathy. The aftermath of this horrific incident, Martial law was declared on the territory of Haiti after the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise, Acting Prime Minister Claude Joseph added. "Following an emergency gathering of the Council of Ministers, we chose to declare a martial law throughout the country," Joseph said. The Security Council last week noted in a statement that it was deeply concerned by the "political, security, also humanitarian conditions in Haiti and stressed the initial responsibility of the government of Haiti to address the situation."
