The queen back in Windsor Castle after spending a night in hospital

The Queen spent Wednesday night in hospital for some medical checks and is now back at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace said. The 95-year-old monarch returned from the private hospital in the central hospital on Thursday afternoon and is "in good spirits," the palace added.

The Queen cancelled a visit to Northern Ireland on Wednesday. She received medical advice to rest for a few days following a busy schedule of public engagements.

In a statement on Thursday evening, Buckingham Palace stated: "After medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen was taken to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some examinations,"

The Queen travelled by car to King Edward VII Hospital in Marylebone, about 19 miles (32km) from Windsor, where she was seen by specialists. Their entry is understood not to be related to coronavirus.

The overnight stay was revealed to be for practical reasons, and the Queen was back at her desk and made light flights on Thursday afternoon.

It is the first time the Queen has stayed in hospital since 2013 when she had symptoms of gastroenteritis.

King Edward VII is a private hospital used by seniors - including the Queen's husband, the late Duke of Edinburgh, who was treated there earlier this year.

Even though she looks very good and happy at the many events she has attended in the past week; one can not forget that she is 95 years old.

It is a complicated balance for the palace to release enough details about the Queen's health to keep the public informed while the privacy to which she is entitled.

It was for this reason that the news that she was being taken to hospital for tests was not announced until a report in the Sun newspaper on the front page forced the palace to shake hands.

People will be worried, but the reassuring guidance remains that she is in "good soul" when returning from the hospital and is good enough to do some light tasks.
