Dominica: Vince Henderson lauds CSG Patricia Scotland for prioritising climate issues
Dr Vince Henderson- Dominica's Minister for Planning, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, Sustainable Development, and Renewable Energy, shared an update on his recent trip to New York City. He also lauded Commonwealth of General Secretary-General Patricia Scotland for prioritising climate change. She stated the visit was part of a team meeting with United Nations representatives of Commonwealth countries ahead of the June 20-26 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Rwanda and a crucial leadership vote to elect a secretary-general. He thanked the country representatives who met with the team of Dominica and appreciated their time, feedback and support. "As Minister for Climate Resilience, Sustainable Development and Renewable Energy, I have seen the priority placed on climate issues by the Commonwealth under the stewardship of Baroness Patricia Scotland," said Henderson.  He stated that Baroness Scotland has backed up her calls for urgent and sustained attention to climate issues by the international community through ambitious climate initiatives, including;
  • Assistance to member countries in crafting and implementing their national climate plans through the Climate Action Enhancement Package;
  • Improve access to financing for Africa, the Caribbean, and Pacific states through the flagship Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub;
  • Mainstreaming gender and youth issues in climate action;
  • At a critical time for climate action, we look forward to Baroness Scotland's continuing her term as we advance our plans for energy resilience and transition, finance our adaptation and mitigation projects and consolidate issues for small states and Africa.
