Tuesday, 2nd July 2019

Terrance James, Assistant Commissioner of Police with Responsibility for the Operations Directorate in the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force, has taken up duties at Her Majesty's Prison on July 1, 2019.

James had been on extended leave for several months.

Although James might have assumed duties in an acting capacity, the tenure of Juni "Scrape" Hodge, who was appointed Superintendent of Prisons in 2016, was placed on leave by Minister of National Security, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, remains unclear.

Earlier this year, Hodge, through his lawyers sought clarification on his position via a letter to the government but it was not immediately clear if a response has been received.

Hodge has been paid monthly for nearly three years he has been on leave. During his absence Asheila Connor, who acted in his absence went on vacation and pre-retirement leave. Assistant Superintendent of Prisons, Alton Liburd, who should have moved up the ladder as acting superintendent, was recently forced into retirement. The Prime Minister’s brother Denzil “Bull” Harris was acting superintendent of prison.
