PM Rowley addresses special UN discussion and says T&T became sustainable decades ago
On Tuesday, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Dr Keith Rowley participate in a virtual United Nations roundtable on Extractive Industries - Financing for Development in the Era of COVID-19 and Beyond.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres convened the meeting.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley Trinidad and Tobago have been on the right side of history by using natural gas for electricity generation in 1959. By the early 2000s, he was able to boast of 100 percent natural gas usage in the country's electricity mix.
He stated that Trinidad and Tobago achieved success many decades ago in what several countries have started to implement.
In one year of the COVID-19, pandemic Prime Minister Keith Rowley stated that Latin America and the Caribbean are among the economies that endured the severe effects of financial fall down. He stated that the region is currently observing a change in the pandemic path, where its epicentre is walking away from the developed countries to the developing world, where the fiscal area is restricted in respect of support needed to deal with the region pandemic.PM Rowley stated the coronavirus vaccine is an essential method of dealing with the virus. He demanded vaccine equity and fair distribution of doses to the developing nations.
He noted that there would be many possibilities for sustainable growth in the post-COVID world, and utilization of traditional modes of operations in the extractive industries will continue. Furthermore, Prime Minister Rowley stated that the country's National Development Strategy, 'Vision 2030', is joined with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and considers Trinidad and Tobago's development imperatives."The establishment of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency into the state energy mix has been recognized as a key medium-term sustainable development goal," stated PM Rowley.
