Newtown Sporting Facility reopens with upgraded facilities: Samal Duggins
The roof of the sporting facility has been upgraded with an intent focus on the safety and comfort of the spectators, and the ventilation has also been improved for an exceptional sporting atmosphere.

The Newtown Sporting Facility in St Kitts has reopened its doors and boasts a fresh look with major developments. The Minister of Sports, Samal Duggins, shared glimpses of the upgraded facility.
The roof of the sporting facility has been upgraded with an intent focus on the safety and comfort of the spectators, and the ventilation has also been improved for an exceptional sporting atmosphere.
While sharing the glimpses, Minister Duggins said that last year, he vowed to improve Newtown's sporting facilities, and today, he is delighted to announce that commitment has materialized.
He highlighted that the timing of the facility's reopening could not be better with the upcoming football season.
"With intent focus on the safety and comfort of the spectators, we've upgraded the roof and improved the ventilation – all for an exceptional sporting atmosphere," outlined Samal Duggins.
The overall work at the Newtown Playing Field, as announced by Minister Samal Duggins, features the following:
- Repairing the pavilion roof
- Upgrading the official booth
- Replacing the bleachers and doors as well as painting

While reiterating his commitment, Minister Duggins said as the Minister of Sports, he is committed to sporting excellence and the recent upgrades underline his ministry's dedication. "Athletes, get ready to shine, and spectators, get ready for an enhanced experience," he added. In addition to this, the Minister also expressed his sincere thanks to the Deputy Prime Minister, Geoffrey Hanley, who also serves as East Basseterre's constituency representative, for his instrumental support in the success of this project. Notably, in July 2023, the Minister visited several sporting facilities in need of immediate upgrades on the island and vowed that the works would be completed in the upcoming year. While fulfilling his promise, the Minister has worked continuously to get the work completed on several facilities, including the Kim Collins Athletic Stadium, which is the most extensive upgrade project.
