Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister Gaston Browne, during a recent radio show, disclosed that the International Airport on Barbuda is to be open within two to three weeks. Once functional, the airline will bring a major boost in the country’s tourism sector and will bring a huge number of visitors during the peak vacation season.

The Barbuda airport has long been a controversial development on the sister isle with two citizens of the island, John Mussington and Jacklyn Frank making an appeal to the Privy Council to decide if they had sufficient legal standing to pursue a judicial review case against the government on this issue.

This airport has been constructed in collaboration between the central government and PLH developers and aims to cater to wealthy visitors’ private jets.

The government has maintained that the airport is critical to the sister isle’s overall economy and development and will make it easy for wealthy visitors to travel there. PM Browne also mentioned earlier that he was confident that the Barbudan applicant’s case would not hinder its plans and that the case was true.

The airport’s launch will come after the final approvals from the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority.

It is to be noted that the country is witnessing record breaking tourism numbers which is leading to significant demand for new routes to the destination from international lines. The construction of the airport comes at a perfect time and will cater to the needs of people looking forward to spend sometime on the island nation.

Not only this, but it will also allow international airlines to introduce new routes to Barbuda, hence expanding their Caribbean network and linking various parts of the world with the region, famous for its unique offerings to travelers.

The government of Antigua and Barbuda are taking all the measures to boost the tourism sector and bring more visitors to the twin island nation.
