"I will be among the first to take COVID-19 vaccine" says PM Roosevelt Skerrit

Prime Minister was quoted as saying," I, Roosevelt Skerrit, will certainly the vaccine, and I would urge every citizen to do likewise."

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, announced on his weekly broadcast show "Anou Pale" that he will be undoubtedly taking the coronavirus vaccine once it is available in the country. Prime Minister was quoted as saying, "I, Roosevelt Skerrit, will certainly the vaccine, and I would urge every citizen to do likewise."

Dr. Skerrit mentioned that it would be a voluntary offering, and the government will make sure to make the vaccine available to all its citizens and residences.

"I will certainly be the first in line if the government allows me." declared the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit also stated that he would not participate in the vaccination-related conspiracy theories.

Prime Minister Dr. Skerrit noted the work being done by PAHO in Dominica, and he stated that PAHO has always been very active during and after Hurricane Maria as well.

Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), also joined the Dominican Prime Minister through a video call.

She advised people to wear face masks that cover their noses and mouth. She stated that as she follows many Dominicans on social media accounts, she figured some people only keep the mask on their chins, which is not advisable.

Dominica has been extremely fortunate when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic. So far, no COVID-19 related deaths are recorded in the small Caribbean nation.

As per official statistics provided by the health ministry of Dominica, the country had only 110 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, while currently there are only eight active cases.

According to the data, currently, 28 people are in the GOCD quarantine, while so far, no contacts are under investigation.

National Epidemiologist of Dominica Dr. Shlauddin Ahmed had said earlier this week that there had been no local coronavirus cases, and all recent cases after November are imported.
