Hollywood actress Phylicia Rashad immerses in Trinbago Carnival experience

Hollywood actress Phylicia Rashad immerses in Trinbago Carnival experience

A famous American actress, Phylicia Rashad, is currently in Trinidad and Tobago to enjoy the carnival season. She is the TV Mom and most Trinbagonians growing up in the 80s and 90s would have known through her television name 'Claire Huxtable' on the popular series The Cosby Show.

The Trinidad and Tobago Carnival 2024 began on February 7 and will continue until February 14 and will comprise a number of exciting events. During a recent interview on Wednesday, Rashade shared her thoughts on the Trinbagonian experience.

Having worked with a famous son of the soil, Late Geoffrey Holder, the acclaimed actress was happy to witness for herself the inspiration behind his work. She worked with him on Broadway in the Original Production of The Wiz in 1975. While sharing her experience, the actress said, "In the early part of my career, I had the good fortune to work with Geoffrey Holder, and now I realize what was so magical about the original production of The Wiz because he brought Trinidad into that production." Being in the height of the carnival season, Miss Rashad is enjoying every moment of it as she continues to learn about the culture, especially the intricacies of the steelpan.

She said that she went to a panyard and was really impressed with everything being performed. Phylicia Rashad said, "Man, people don't understand the steel pan," and added that people outside do not necessarily understand the magnificence of it. Rashad added that she knows more than ever that there is so much diversity in the sound as one could play any kind of music on a steel pan.

"Seeing this large group of musicians from different parts of the world, mind you, from different cultures, and I think that's what's unique about Trinidad that I really love," she further highlighted.

In addition, she also mentioned that earlier, he daughter visited Trinidad and Tobago, and it was she who encouraged her to visit the twin-island nation. She said, "Mom, you will never see a place of greater diversity, cultural diversity, where all of that diversity is embraced as one."

The representatives of Tourism Trinidad also hosted her at a breakfast. They said that they felt proud to host everyone's favourite TV mom, Phylicia Rashad, who had her first corn soup and steelpan orchestral experience.

It was a breakfast immersed in culture, then a quiet moment in the Bamboo Cathedral, followed by a fun time with some young golfers. Rashad felt there was no place like home as she continued to visit Trinidad and even took a break for her many fans.
