Fake social media warning from St Kitts-Nevis PM

Timothy Harris account reported to Facebook

Timothy Harris.

The prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis has warned people to be careful of fake accounts of social media.

His warning comes after it emerged a Facebook profile purporting belonging to Timothy Harris was contacting other users on the site.

According to Valencia Grant, press secretary to the prime minister, the account is “appropriating his image and name to prey on well-meaning individuals and lure them into bogus schemes.”

Harris has alerted Facebook as well as the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force, she added.

Reporters from WIC News received friend requests in 2017 from another Timothy Harris profile using a picture of the prime minister.

“I cherish the opportunity to engage in direct dialogue with the public, so it is disappointing and disheartening that illicit actors are stopping at nothing to make a financial gain by impersonating me and other public officials,” Harris said.

“Please beware of these online scams. If something doesn’t look or feel right, please report it to the relevant authorities.”

The official Timothy Harris Facebook page is verified – meaning is has a white tick next to the name – and goes by the handle @pmharriskn.
