Dominica: Marigot hospital to be completed in June 2021

Dominica: Construction of the long-awaited Marigot hospital would be completed in the month of June. It would start providing advanced healthcare services to people across the region, said Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit. In his address on the Validation ceremony of elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV and Syphilis, PM Skerrit said, “Increase access and coverage of health services: we inaugurated six (6) new health centres this year, with another five (5) to be inaugurated within the next two months. The new Marigot Hospital will be completed in June of this year, and we expect the total completion of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital at the end of 2021.”

The 40,000 square feet and the two-story hospital will have a 75-bed capacity, including a wide range of essential services and modern state of the art facilities. The new Marigot hospital will provide services such as Emergency Care, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Ambulatory Services, Paediatric and Maternity care, Trauma Centre, Laboratory and Radiology Services.

The construction of the hospital is entirely funded by the citizenship by investment programme of Dominica. The costs will also include a special grant of US $5 million provided by the government of Mexico to help the hospital meet the expenses of equipments.

The hospital was much awaited as it will accommodate surrounding areas of Marigot. Along with that, it would also be the nearest hospital to the current international airport. The new state of the art hospital will help Dominica to advance its medical infrastructure.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Skerrit had also announced the full completion of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital by the end of 2021. This is also a significant step to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure in the country. However, the first phase was reopened in the year 2019 and is currently providing healthcare services to the people.
