Dominica International Airport construction to begin in the first quarter of 2021: PM Skerrit

In the recent episode of Anou Palay, Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit stated that the construction of the International Airport would begin in the first quarter of 2021.

Prime Minister stated that the International Airport project would open many opportunities for development in various sectors including tourism, agriculture and certainly increase new employment opportunities for citizens.

Dr Skerrit stated that the International Airport will also have a facility for private-jets.

"We have a roundabout concept for the airport entrance, we have a tunnel along the Eden Road, we have a pilot restaurant, and we are trying to ensure we get everything as right and correct as possible", added Dr Skerrit on Sunday.

He added that in the coming week an International Airport Development Company and government would delegate the construction of the airport to the company.

The company would be having a list of board of directors which will include a white-collar section of the Dominican society represented by 15-16 members.

"We will also be appointing a CEO, and in that company, you will have engineers, accountants and other staff. The idea is to recruit 10-15 young Dominicans who can work in this and study what is happening," added the Prime Minister.

Besides this, Dr Skerrit stated that people who own trucks and other heavy machinery can list out their equipment for further engagements related to the airport project.

Furthermore, Prime Minister stated that the airport would have a Dominica friendly terminal building which would reflect the taste and aesthetics of the country.

He also asserted that the government intends to be very transparent and informative regarding the airport project.

Prime Minister also thanked the people for letting the government acquire their properties for the airport project. "We are very grateful to people and so many others for understanding the project, as it is critical for the government and people of the country," added Dr Skerrit.
