Dominica Cable Car Project: Black Hawk helicopter completes its significant role
Dominica: As the ongoing construction of the world’s longest cable car in Dominica continues at a rapid pace, the role of the remarkable Sikorsky Black Hawk helicopter came to an end on Friday. The utilisation of the helicopter, which was brought from America to lift the heavy components for the LCS material ropeway, has turned out to be a huge success.

The helicopter carried all the materials through the forest for the team to build the actual cable car itself. Things like foundation materials, formwork tower structures and all the components for the machinery was transported at the top station.

The helicopter was piloted by Brian Jorgenson who along with his team did an exceptional job throughout their work on the cable car site. Despite the severe weather conditions, the team was able to send tons of concrete from base station to the top and middle station.

This transportation of concrete has been a significant in the construction process and facilitated the efficient and timely delivery of essential materials to the Top Station which is around 6.6 km away from the bottom station.

In addition to this, the helicopter was also used to move and relocate different towers needed for the cable car.

Notably, the Black Hawk has a capacity of 7500 pounds or around 3400 kg in lifting weight and it has a good speed and around 2000 horsepower per two engines are installed in it. This is why the acquisition of the helicopter by ABL Holdings, after the approval of the United States Government has been highly significant in the entire construction process.

The construction workers at the site are also lauding Pilot Jorgenson for the smooth functioning. One of the individuals at the site revealed that on March 13, despite the phenomenal weather conditions, the team put forth its efforts in building the anchor at the top station.

“Due to the turbulent situation, it was hard for the pilot to locate the place to land the steel cage, but with their prior dedication, the entire process was done safely,” he added.

The world’s longest cable car in Dominica promises to be a game changer for the tourism industry and is said to attract a huge number of passengers from across the globe.

The cable car spans across 6.6 km and will take visitors from Roseau to the Boiling Lake in just 20 minutes. During the ride, people can enjoy breathtaking views before reaching the second largest boiling lake in the world.
