"With China's support, Dominica is in a better position to stop COVID-19" says PM Skerrit

Dr Skerrit emphasised on the continuous efforts made by the People's Republic of China to assist Dominica

Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, addressed the country at commissioning ceremony of West Coast Bridges on Monday. During the event, Dr Skerrit stated that Dominica would always respect the 'one-China principle.

Dr Skerrit emphasised on the continuous efforts made by the People's Republic of China to assist Dominica since it developed diplomatic relations in 2004.

The government officials of Dominica and diplomats of China and Venezuela gathered at the commissioning ceremony of three climate-resilient bridges that were devastated in Tropical Storm Erika in 2015. These bridges connect North and South of Dominica together.

Prime Minister stated that Dominica would always support the one-China policy and stands with China in its decisions to maintain law in the country.

"Dominica stands in total solidarity in all of the legal actions that China takes to maintain law and order in the whole of China, including Hong Kong." added Dr Skerrit.

Dr Skerrit emphasised that the impact and contribution made by China to Dominica is clearly visible in the social and economic advancement.

Prime Minister added that despite having poverty issues of its own, China has always been there making an extraordinary commitment to small islands and developing states of sharing all the resources it has.

Furthermore, he added that China does not owe Dominica anything, but it has stood with the country in thick and thin.

Speaking about coronavirus, Dr Skerrit also stated that with the support of China, Dominica is in a better position to stop the spread of the virus in the country.

"The revolution of health-sectors in Dominica is massive and today Dominica has a large number of doctors born in Dominica working for the betterment of the health-structure of the country." added Prime Minister Skerrit.

Dr Skerrit made it clear that the international airport project would come into reality and it is hugely significant to ensure a sustainable development path that Dominica has been following.

He added that the Dominica Labour Party has been providing the country with all the resources of living and education even though the country faces catastrophes regularly. He stated that his Dominica Labour Party has a commitment for the people of the country and would continue to do so.
