Bahamas receives 3,496 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Montserrat & Anguilla

 Caribbean island country Bahamas received 3,496 doses of the COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine due to a donation from the British Overseas Territories of Montserrat and Anguilla assistance of United Kingdom High Commissioner Sarah Dickson on Wednesday, 21st July 2021.

Bahamas: Caribbean island country Bahamas received 3,496 doses of the COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine due to a donation from the British Overseas Territories of Montserrat and Anguilla assistance of United Kingdom High Commissioner Sarah Dickson on Wednesday, 21st July 2021. Dr Merceline Dahl-Regis, chair of the National COVID-19 Vaccine Consultative Committee and special health adviser to the Prime Minister of Bahamas, said, "The vaccines are a welcome addition to our current vaccine supplies and will be used to continue the administration of second doses. We express our deep appreciation to the governments and people of Montserrat and Anguilla and the United Kingdom for this much-needed support.” He received the vaccines on Wednesday, 21 July 2021, at Jet Nassau FBO at the Lynden Pindling International Airport.  [caption id="attachment_36183" align="alignnone" width="2048"]Photo shared by office of prime minister of Bahamas Photo shared by office of prime minister of Bahamas[/caption] Dr Dahl-Regis also thanked the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for helping to coordinate the effort.

Bahamas coronavirus statistics to the date :  Total COVID-19 confirmed cases: 13,781  New confirmed cases: 177 Total Recovered :12,158 Total deaths due to COVID-19: 274 According to the Health Ministry of Bahamas, 39,366 are fully vaccinated from in this country, which compromises 10.1% of the total population who are fully vaccinated. Also, the total given dose is 99,755 on the island.  The Bahamas, known officially as the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, is a country within the Lucayan Archipelago of the West Indies (WI) in the Atlantic. It takes up 97% of the Lucayan Archipelago's land area and is home to 88% of the archipelago's population. Last week, the committee restricted vaccine appointments to second doses only, and on Monday, that was further restricted to no new appointments for the remainder of the week at all. Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis, meanwhile, indicated the government is considering making arrangements with cruise lines for unvaccinated Bahamians to be carried to the US to get inoculation there as the country awaits further doses of AstraZeneca and its first tranche of Pfizer.
