AFAR sheds light on Dominica's eco-tourism, sustainability practices

Dominica has once again taken the spotlight and shines among 'Most Exciting Places to Visit in the Caribbean in 2024'. The list released by New York based travel magazine Afar features 6 destinations across the region which ranges from significant strides in sustainability to game-changing hotel developments. The publication also mentioned Dominica's Secret Bay and said that the resort is committed fully to sustainability.  Ranked at Number 5, the magazine noted that Dominica aims to become the world's first climate-resilient country by 2030, with groundbreaking eco-adventures and luxurious, nature-immersive resorts. The Ministry of Tourism of Dominica shared the development and felt proud of the prestigious recognition. It said, "From the Caribbean's First Dedicated Sea Kayaking route to soon the World's Longest Cable Car, explore why this Nature Island is a must-visit for every traveller!" Afar said that the island recently established the first dedicated sea kayaking route in the Caribbean - the Waitukubuli Sea Trail, which takes individuals along a 40-mile stretch of coastline.   [caption id="attachment_62997" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Waitukubuli Sea Trail[/caption] Not only this, but the detailed feature by Afar also highlighted that Dominica is set to launch the world's longest cable car system spanning across 4.1 miles. This Cable Car will take travellers from Roseau Valley to the top of Boiling Lake while offering breathtaking views in a 20-minute ride.  [caption id="attachment_67297" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Ongoing work at the Cable Car Site[/caption] The publication stated that the island is also working on several luxury resorts which includes the Tranquillity Beach which will comprise of 99 design forward rooms, cliff hanging villas and luxe tree houses.  Other upcoming accommodations include the Anichi Resort and Spa, Autograph Collection which will be a 128 room property set on 12 acres along Picard Beach and promises visitors a range of upscale amenities like swim up suites.  Also, the Fort Young Hotel made it to the feature with Afar saying that the place is wrapping up an $18 million renovation comprising of a rooftop wellness garden as well as a rum and wine cellar featuring ocean aged rum.  The magazine also encouraged visitors to book their stay at the Secret Bay, as it is one of the most renowned and well-built resorts on the island.
