Netherlands appoint Sandór Marnix Raphaël Vergas as High Commissioner to Dominica

The Netherlands appointed Sandór Marnix Raphaël Verga as their new High-Commissioner to Commonwealth of Dominica. As per reports, Verga presented his credentials to President Charles Savarin on 14 January 2022.

President Charles Savarin of Dominica welcomed the Ambassador Sandór Marnix Raphaël Verga. He said Dominica and the Kingdom of Netherlands share strong ties. President expressed confidence that the new ambassador will continue to develop the bilateral relationship.

Furthermore, President said he is glad to see that renewable energy and climate resilience are among the guiding principles of the Dutch development cooperation programme, which he expects Dominica would benefit from.

"We are living in extremely volatile times that require collaborative action," President Savarin said.

"Dominica remains committed to working with the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the rest of the world to address major concerns such as regional security, the disastrous effects of climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic, which threaten the well-being of our people and the entire world," President Savarin emphasized.

Furthermore, he said Dominica would greatly benefit renewable energy, climate resilience, water management, public-private partnerships, tourism, environment, public health, and vocational training as these are the guiding principles of the Dutch government.

Meanwhile, Sandór Marnix Raphael Verga, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Commonwealth of Dominica, said he is looking forward to sharing his country's knowledge with Dominica in a variety of disciplines, including geothermal energy and sustainable agriculture.

Ambassador Verga went on to say that he wishes to provide additional chances for investors to contribute to Dominica's economy.

The bond between the Netherlands Antilles and Dominica is bolstered by a longstanding huckster trade in fresh agricultural produce between Dominica and St. Maarten. As a result of the oil refining sector in the 1940s and 1950s, people in the Eastern Caribbean have had longstanding links with the Dutch islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao, and there are currently several thousand Dominicans living and working on St. Maarten.

President Savarin remarked, "I am convinced that you will carry on the good work of your predecessors in deepening the connections of friendship and collaboration that have existed between our two countries for the past forty-one years."
