77% of COVID-19 cases in Dominica are imported: National Epidemiologist
Dr Shalauddin stated that fourteen cases are imported cases.

The small Caribbean island of Dominica now has 8 active COVID-19 cases. National Epidemiologist Dr Shalauddin Ahmed gave this information during health ministry's recent press conference. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country stands at 32 with no deaths.
Dr Shalauddin stated that fourteen of the 32 cases are imported while the rest were the contacts of these patients.
"77 percent of the total cases are imported as 14 detected when the opening of the borders. All imported cases were discovered at the airport or the quarantine facility, and one person is still under the investigation," stated Dr Ahmed.
The age group of these COVID-19 patients is between 2 to 59-year-old. All the patients are said to be asymptomatic and doing well. Six patients who met the criteria have also been discharged, and eight more are expected to be discharged once they fall under the required standards, stated Dr Shalauddin.
Furthermore, the national epidemiologist stated that 50 contacts have been identified from patient number fourteen, and all of them were tested and 48 tested negative and undergoing home quarantine.
Dr Shalauddin stated that the government has also formed a committee to provide support in COVID-19 related matters and people are advised to seek help in case of any issue.
The government of Dominica reopened its borders for all travellers following strict health guidelines from August 07. The COVID-19 cases have since increased; however, people are tested upon entering the country at all ports of the entrance of the country.
