Warnings lifted as Tropical Storm Harvey passes over Caribbean Sea

Disturbance caused flooding on some islands

All warnings have been lifted as Tropical Storm Harvey made its way across the eastern Caribbean islands into the Caribbean Sea.

St Vincent and the Grenadines, Martinique and St Lucia were the last nations to lift their warnings.

Dominica has also ended its tropical storm watch.

Barbados, which was hit with heavy flooding following the storm, was the first to remove it’s warning.

WIC News understands that Gilles Terrace and Around The Town in St Peter were among the hardest hit.

The kick-off event for Carifesta, the XIII Caribbean Festival of Arts, was postponed because of the storm’s encroachment.

The weather caused Caribbean airline LIAT to cancel almost 20 flights yesterday. At present there has been no announcement on flight changes for today.

In the latest update from the Miami-based National Hurricane Center, the centre of TS Harvey is located at latitude 13.7 north, longitude 64.1 west – or the eastern portion of the Caribbean Sea.

It is currently travelling at 21mph (33kmph) but this is expected to increase over the weekend.

Portions of the Windward Islands should be aware that the storm may lead to heavy rain but the heaviest downfalls are expected across the ABC islands.
