St Lucia: Opposition leader Philip J. Pierre says within the ruling United Workers Party (UWP) there is a feeling that they should kill the legacy of the Labor Party.
“They did it with the airport, they did it with the Gros Islet Highway, they did it with the building in Vieux Fort, they did it with the Soufriere Square, they did it with the North-South link road . It is as if they are on a mission to destroy the legacy of the Labor Party,” Pierre said.
He said the UWP government wanted to prove to Saint Lucians that labor was the worst managers in office. However, the Castries East MPs have noted that the people are suffering from it in the meantime.
On the other hand, the SLP leader expressed the view that the management of Allen Chastanet should have continued the programs of the SLP.
"This government has left Saint Lucia 10, 15 years behind," Pierre claims during Chill & Chat with Maundy Lewis, which aired on Choice Television.
"At the moment, Saint Lucia is the worst performing economy in the OECS - it's sad, but it's true," he said.
"We have the highest debt, the highest COVID cases, we have the highest deaths and the economy that performs the worst," Pierre declared.
He reiterated his assertion that the current government did not cause COVID-19, and therefore the position of the SLP is that the country is not prepared and therefore needs to organize to respond to the pandemic.
But Pierre recalled that the national economy began to decline from 2019, because instead of continuing the programs started by the SLP, the government wanted to destroy the legacy of labor.
The SLP leader described it as a political retaliation that is childish and immature.
