St Lucia minister ‘will not abandon work’ after death threat

St Lucia’s Home Affairs, Justice and National Security Minister Hermangild Francis insists he will continue with his work after receiving a death threat.

Describing the letter, Francis – who is a former deputed police commissioner – said it was “very unfortunate”.

But the threat has given him a determination to tackle St Lucia’s crime spiral.

“I will not abandon my responsibilities as National Security Minister. I have always dedicated myself to the fight against crime,” he said, reports Caribbean360.

“I did it as a police officer and now I am doing so in another capacity. We have a situation which is very serious and disturbing on our hands, and the government is seeking to address it in a decisive manner. We cannot ignore it.

People who disagree with him should “take a look at the laws of the country” instead of issuing threats, he added.

The minister has recently announced a national consultation on crime that will last one day.

New solutions to challenges surrounding St Lucia’s crime rate will be discussed.
