Douglas believes the PLP 'will die a natural death'

The opposition St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) have reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership of Denzil Douglas.
Douglas, the federation’s longest serving prime minister and current leader of the opposition, was re-elected unopposed as national political leader at the party’s conference on Sunday.
Also returned unopposed were Earl Asim Martin as deputy national leader, Marcella Liburd as national chairperson, Diana Williams-Humphrey as national secretary, and Karen Crossman as national assistant secretary.
Cedric Liburd is the new national vice chairman.
Who else was elected?
Roosevelt Trotman is the new face among the three nominated members, with Thamesha Fyfield and Kenny Douglas both re-elected.
Designated officers representing the constituencies are Rudolph Morton (St Christopher 2); Tenicha McSheen (St Christopher 3); Frederick Gillard (St Christopher 4); and Rubie Taylor (St Christopher 6).
Representatives for St Christopher 1, St Christopher 4, St Christopher 5, St Christopher 7, Young Labour and Labour Women are still to be named.
‘PLP created to grab power’
In his address to the delegates, Douglas indicated that the SKNLP have overcome many obstacles and kept the wheels of progress turning to dramatically advance the quality of life of the people.
“In the process, we made our party stronger than ever. After some 85 years of existence, we remain the leading political party, if not the only one, in our federation and the most successful among all political parties in the Caribbean region,” Douglas said.
“The so-called PLP was hastily constructed for the sole purpose of grabbing power, privilege and money for the Harris family. The PLP will die a natural death when the people of this country definitively remove the government of Harris and his accomplices from office.
The People’s Action Movement is systematically being destroyed by the Harris government and could easily disappear with the PLP,” said Dr. Douglas.
The SKNLP received 11,897 votes at the 2015 general election, more than any other single party.
But they only won three seats – losing one of its seats by four votes and another by 26 votes – and the three-party coalition government was formed by People’s Action Movement, the Concerned Citizen’s Movement and the People’s Labour Party.
