Shian Lewis to represent Trinidad and Tobago at CARIFTA Games 2024
Trinidad and Tobago: A young calypso girl from Trinidad and Tobago, Shian Lewis, is all set to represent her country at CARIFTA Games 2024 in Grenada. Lewis qualified for the team after she ran only her second race during the trials. The 2024 CARIFTA Games began with an inauguration ceremony held in St George's, Grenada, on Wednesday morning. This eagerly anticipated 51st edition is scheduled to take place at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium from March 30 to April 1, 2024

According to the information, she will be representing the country in the Girls Under 17 800m and 1500m as well as the 4x400m relay pool.

While sharing the development, the Trinidad and Tobago Netball Association said, "In only her second race at the distance, Young Calypso Girl Shian Lewis qualified for the NAAA TT T&T Carifta Games team that will compete in Grenada over the Easter Weekend."

The Association congratulated her and said that she was part of a Trinidad and Tobago Under 16 team, which was completed at the Caribbean Netball Association - CNA 2023 Jean Pierre Youth Netball Championships in Dominica.

She also played for her club – Spartoms Netball Club, in the Republic Bank Laventille Netball League. She is presently in the training squad for both the national U16 and U21 netball teams.

Lewis, who attends Success Laventille Secondary School, won the Girls Under-17 1500m at the TTSSTFA Secondary Schools SSTF Secondary Schools Championships and then bettered her time by over 20 seconds to place second at the NAAA CARIFTA Trials—less than a month later. She is also netball's Youth Female Nominee for the 2023 First Citizens Sports Awards.

As the young female qualified for the prestigious event to be held in Grenada, several citizens and residents took to Facebook to congratulate her and give their best wishes.

"I have never seen her play netball but saw at the Carifta trails; she is an excellent runner. Great job, young lady. DNA of two great sportspersons," wrote a user named Wesley Gomes, while another user said, "That is performance! So proud of your hard work."
