Saint Lucia: In a significant development, the Department of Housing and Local Government in collaboration with the Castries Constituency Council hosted the grand opening of the Bideau Park Vending Hut Facility.
This occasion represented a vision Prime Minister Philip J Pierre had for re-constructing the Capital City Castries while taking into account the environmental and social objectives.
Minister for Housing & Local Government Richard Frederick acting upon PM Pierre’s vision swiftly put into motion the delivery of the Bideau Park Vending Hut Facility. The facility falls line with PM’s goals for the city of Castries. This is just one of the many intersectoral actions which form part of the transformation of the urban space geared towards both the present and future needs of the Capital of this Fair Helen of the West.
This approach to build a stronger partnership with the vendors of Castries was welcomed by Geraldine Lendor Gabriel Mayor of Castries who made an impassioned plee to the vendors to be disciplined and to help the CCC really push the vendors’ efforts to the next level and grow their businesses.
Joachim Henry, Minister for Equity and Social Transformation would reveal the Bideau Park Vending Hut Facility also falls in line with his Ministry’s mandate to assist the vulnerable and disadvantaged by improving their ability to engage in heightened socio-economic activity.
Minister Frederick expressed his unwavering commitment to deliver on change-focused initiatives such as the vending booths at Bideau Park that not only benefit constituents, but Saint Lucians at large.
He extended his heartfelt appreciation to the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Philip J. Pierre for the vending booth idea which goes hand-in-hand with his plan of action for vendors in achieving the goal of a better outcome for the people of Castries Central.
The shift in vision for Castries brought about by the Pierre-led administration forms part of the modern urban development restructuring of the city brought about by the high level of dynamics and density of businesses within the basin.
The Bideau Park Vending Hut Facility is just one project derived from consensus between business owners and who are in support of urban development and vendor-governmental partnerships working around the present shortcomings of the city that need to be corrected or at least compensated for.
