"I wish good luck to Ms Thea Lafond and Mr Dennick Luke, who are representing the Commonwealth of Dominica at the Tokyo2020." PM Skerrit said.

Notably, Tokyo Olympics officially started on 24th July 2021, and the substantial opening ceremony was presented yesterday in the Olympics village Tokyo, Japan, where more than 205 contingents in the Parade of Nations. According to the language selected by the organising committee, the teams enter the stadium in alphabetical order, generally the dominant language in the host city. Reports indicate that the Dominica delegation gave a good account of themselves at the opening ceremony. Triple jumper Thea Lafond, who was one of Dominica’s flag bearers at the opening ceremony, said after the event said, " I felt honoured to represent Dominica, many people attracted from attire and beauty of the flag of our country ." "People are excited to know about Dominica and also excited to share the view with Mr Dennick Luke," she added. Moreover, she thanked her coach for giving her guidance. Dominica 1st competed at the Olympic Games in 1996, and has participated in each game since then. The Dominica Olympic Committee was established in 1993 and recognized in 1998, 20 years after independence in 1978. Additionally, Dominica made its Winter Olympics debut in 2014. Both Dominican athletes are expected to compete in the first round of their events on July 31st, and more details will be given in due course as to how the general public can view their performances. The Tokyo Olympics have previously broken new ground because of the 12-month delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, pushing it into an odd-numbered year for the first time. But with no fans permitted in Japan, it has the distinction of being the first Games without spectators.Latest
