PM Drew meets Waterloo's Regional Councillor Colleen James, lauds her historic achievements

During the meeting, he lauded James for representing the city of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, as she made history in October 2022 by becoming the first Black woman on the Waterloo Regional Council.

St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew received a courtesy call from the Regional Councillor at the Region of Waterloo, Colleen James, on Tuesday. He said that James' roots run deep, with her family hailing from St Kitts and Antigua before settling in the City of Kitchener. During the meeting, he lauded James for representing the city of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, as she made history in October 2022 by becoming the first Black woman on the Waterloo Regional Council. While appreciating the young female, PM Drew said that her outstanding achievements speak volumes as she was recognized as one of the Top 100 Black Women to Watch by the Canada International Black Women Event in 2020, named among the Top 25 Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Persons of the Year by the Canadian Multicultural Group in 2021, and was honoured with the prestigious Black Excellence in Leadership Award in 2023.

"Her dedication to serving her community and her impactful contributions are truly inspiring," outlined PM Terrance Drew.

The meeting also gave an opportunity to James to reflect on her journey, share her vision for the future and discuss ways to boost ties between Canada and St Kitts and Nevis. She also hailed the Prime Minister for giving her a chance to collaborate and discuss various matters of common interests while boosting ties between both the countries.

This prestigious meeting shows the bridging of cultures and recognition of the contributions of the St Kitts and Nevis diaspora to global communities.

Her visit to St Kitts and Nevis also showcases her deep ties with her birth country and her commitment towards being an integral part of the Federation.
