St Kitts and Nevis: The Ministry of Health in Nevis is excited to launch a community wide clean up initiative to beautify and safeguard the island. It called upon all the residents to join them in removing the derelict vehicles which damage the landscape and pose health risks by harbouring pests.
While sharing the development through its official Facebook account, the Ministry said, “In an inspiring collaboration for Earth Day on April 22, 2024, we’ve teamed up with the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society and the generous support of Ocean Conservancy to offer free vehicle removal services.”
It added that this is a fantastic opportunity to enhance the charm and safety of the community at no cost.
The Ministry encouraged everyone to act now and be part of the change and added, “Schedule your free vehicle pickup by contacting NHCS at 660-7833 / 469-9423.”
It is to be noted that the Ministry has already pinpointed several hotspots and vehicle owners in these areas will be contacted directly to arrange hassle free removal. Also, if the owners did not participate voluntarily, they will face an Enforcement Order.
Moreover, the Ministry reminded the citizens that under the Solid Waste Management Ordinance, vehicles not removed within seven days will be handled by the Authority with all associated costs charged to the vehicle owner as a civil debt recoverable at the Magistrate’s Court in Charlestown.
This significant initiative aims at cleaning the island and making it rid of the derelict vehicles which are unnecessarily taking up the space across different places on the island. The Ministry also strives to commemorate Earth Day, which is why it is undertaking this initiative on April 22.
In addition to this, the citizens of Nevis will also benefit from this development as they will get a chance to remove their unused vehicles at no cost, while usually, the process takes time and money for the individuals.
