Melissa Skerrit promotes literary month by reading to school children

Parliamentarian from Roseau Central Mrs. Melissa Skerrit went to Jones Beaupierre Primary School in Laplaine to read to kindergarten and grade 1 students.

Parliamentarian from Roseau Central Mrs. Melissa Skerrit went to Jones Beaupierre Primary School in Laplaine to read to kindergarten and grade 1 students. Mrs. Melissa Skerrit, who is also the wife of Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, shared the images of the reading session on her Facebook page, where she displayed her reading activity.

The students of Delices Primary School also joined the reading session by Melissa Skerrit.

Parliament Representative stated that reading is great fun and her visit sparked the love for reading among the little ones, especially during the literacy month.

Students were also given books to continue their literary journey at home.

Mrs. Skerrit wrote on Facebook, "Reading is such fun! I had the great pleasure of reading to Kindergarten and Grade 1 students at the Jones Beaupierre Primary School in Laplaine on Monday. The students of the Delices Primary school also joined in the fun. This visit seeks to spark the love for reading among our little ones, especially during Literacy Month. The students were all given books to continue their literary journeys at home."

Melissa Skerrit is often seen visiting schools and children care centres as she shares a great connection with kids. She also runs a Melissa Skerrit Foundation, which funds a "back-to-school programme" that gives school bags, stationery, and other items to students before a new session begins.

Small initiatives like reading to students enhance the engagement of students and generate their love for literature. In the initial years of schooling, children as often fond of reading poems, stories to increase their thinking capacity against good morals.

Melissa Skerrit is also supporting weekly classes at Roseau central to provide free tuition to grade 6 students. The classes started from 1 March onwards, twice a week at the stadium. National Assessment Champions assistance to students in the completion of their homework.
