Less than 18 months into his reign, the 75-year-old monarch will discontinue public engagements, but his state business will continue as earlier.

The revelation of the disease was made just a week after the King underwent a separate medical surgery for an enlarged prostate.

After he was hospitalized in January, several tests were conducted, which confirmed that King Charles III was suffering from cancer. The exact type of the disease has not been disclosed by the palace, as such medical problems are rare within the royal family.

In spite of the challenging disease, the monarch is resilient and committed towards his duties. In addition to this, the palace has also assured the general public that the King is optimistic about his treatment and eagerly expects to return to full public duties once his health permits.

Charles III also serves as the King of 14 other Commonwealth realms, including Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu.

The leaders of these countries have expressed their best wishes to their King through social media.

The Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland has also wished the King and said, "On behalf of myself and the Commonwealth, I want to wish His Majesty The King a full and speedy recovery. His Majesty and the Royal Family remain in all our thoughts and prayers."

Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, through a post on X, said, "My thoughts and prayers are with His Majesty King Charles III. I wish him a full and swift recovery and send best wishes to the Royal Family during this time."
