The Chief Medical Officer's office, informed the people of St. Kitts and Nevis that till Tuesday, March 17th 2020 there has not been any confirmed case of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in St Kitts and Nevis.

The Federal Ministry of Health has slashed down all the rumours and social media messages which suggested that a confirmed case of COVID-19 has been detected in the Country.

The Ministry said that these messages are absolutely false, and should be condemned.

It was further added that it is mischievous and malicious attempt to mislead the public and to create high levels of anxiety and fear amongst the people of the Country.

The Ministry said that these types of disgraceful actions of spreading such fake news also suggest that, unfortunately, some unpatriotic elements in the community are eager to see the Country face the adversity caused by the COVID-19.

For such reasons, as these repeated acts of deception, the Federal Ministry of Health has put stress on the following points:

(1) The people should beware of the excessive propaganda being extensively spread on social media.

(2) The people need to rely only on official sources for information on COVID-19. Also, The Federal Ministry of Health is the only authorised State agency for information regarding COVID-19.

The Ministry also made it clear to the public that when the first case of COVID-19 would be officially confirmed, the announcement of the same will be made formally by the Office of the Prime Minister.

It further added that The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis wishes that the Country's  COVID-19 Task Force continues to work proactively in the efforts to ensure that St Kitts and Nevis is prepared adequately for the future presence of COVID-19 in the Country.
