FOOTBALL: Georgia put three goals past the Sugar Boyz

St Kitts and Nevis kept clean sheet until second half

Thursday, 8th June 2017

St Kitts and Nevis were beaten by Georgia in an international friendly at Mikheil Meskhi Stadium, Tbilisi, yesterday afternoon.

This follows the team's 5-0 loss to Armenia at the weekend.

The game ended with Georgia having had 72% of possession. Despite this, the Caribbean side managed to keep a clean sheet in the first half.

But they were never likely to win, managing only three shots – none of them on target.

Giorgi Arabidze scored after 52 minutes before adding his second from the penalty spot 20 minutes later.

With less than 10 minutes to go, Vladimir Dvalishvili scored the third goal of the game to complete an easy win against Jacques Passy's side.

'Need to grow'

Defender Thrizen Leader spoke to WINN FM after the game, blaming the result on poor decisions.

“We played against tough opponents who were tougher to break down. It was about being unlucky on certain decisions why we conceded so many goals in the two games we played.”

The St Paul’s United player also told the radio station that he saw this as a stepping stone to future growth.

“This is our second trip in Europe and playing against tougher opponents I think the guys did fairly well and also it was a learning process for the younger players who just joined the team,” Thriven told WINN FM.

“It also shows that our football has some ways to grow if we need to compete against these bigger nations.”

The Sugar Boyz picked up three yellow cards over the 90 minutes in a game that kept Armenian referee Zaven Hovhannisyan busy, with plenty of fouls by both teams.
