Caribbean leaders extend wishes on International Women’s Day 2022

This year the day has been celebrated under the specific theme – “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow,” and the campaign theme was “#BreakTheBias”.
On this special occasion, many Caribbean leaders wished the women across the globe for their selfless contribution towards the community, their families and themselves.
Dominican Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit extended his wishes and assured that the government of Dominica would create equal opportunities and provide access to thrive and prosper in the pursuit of better futures.
“Greetings! Today, I celebrate every Dominican woman for her unique contribution to the social, economic, and political development of our country. The Government of Dominica will continue to create equal opportunity and access for you to thrive and prosper in the pursuit of better futures for yourselves and your children, in line with the theme, "Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow. Happy International Women's Day,” the post by PM Skerrit read.
Parliamentary Representative of Roseau Central Constituency Melissa Poponne-Skerrit marked the day by celebrating the achievements of the women.
Parliamentary Representative stated, “Today we mark International Women's Day, a global day celebrating the achievement of women, who have made immense progress over the years in their status, in the fight for a gender-equal world. To all the incredible women - shine on, not just today but throughout the year, every day! HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY.”
Parliamentary Representative of Grand Bay Constituency Dr Vince Henderson wrote “Happy International Women’s Day” and shared pictures with the women of Dominica.
The Opposition leader of Trinidad and Tobago – Kamla Persad Bissessar, also wished the international women community. Bissessar mentioned, “I join the national and international community in celebrating the determination, resilience and courage of women and girls on International Women’s Day. This year’s theme, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, focuses on the disproportionate burden of the impacts of the climate crisis on women and highlights the critical importance of including women in developing solutions to this crisis.”She further added, “I reiterate the commitment of the party I lead, the United National Congress, to continue to elevate the voices of women, and to build a society where every citizen, male and female, is given equal opportunity and better quality and standard of living.”
The government of Antigua and Barbuda underscored, “ ' " ℎ l ℎ ." IWD is a day celebrating the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.”
The Prime Minister of St Kitts & Nevis – Dr Timothy Harris, shared the tweet by the SKN Olympic Committee, which read, “#Breakthebias means ending stereotypes and ending discrimination. It means women at the table bringing equity, diversity, equality and inclusivity. It means a woman’s role is valued. Let's celebrate our elected women in Sport!!”
Premier of Nevis and Foreign Affairs and Aviation Minister participated in a workshop on the occasion of International Day and highlighted this year’s theme.
“Delighted this morning to give remarks and to spend some time with just over 20 participants at a workshop to mark International Women's Day under the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”,” Nevis Premier stated.
Brantley further mentioned, “Gender equality is about all of us, men and women, being allowed to play their full role in our national development. I wish each and every female across Nevis and the wider Federation a Happy International Women’s Day”.
MP for Castries South and Member of Cabinet and Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Ernest Hillarie mentioned, “Phenomenally, phenomenal WOMAN is what you are! Happy International Women's Day to all women of Castries South, Saint Lucia and the World. Today we celebrate you, your dedication and the strength upon which all generations are born. William Golding puts it quite clear..."Women are not equal to men. They are far more superior." Happy International Women’s Day.”
