Canadian woman dies rappelling from Trafalgar Falls in Dominica
Inspector Fixton Henderson explained that the incident occurred at around 1:30 pm, on Thursday, 28th December 2023, while Langridge was rappelling down from Trafalgar Falls. The couple were canyoning in Roseau Valley during their vacation, prior to the unfortunate incident when Karlyn became unresponsive.

Dominica Police is investigating the death of a 28-year-old Canadian woman by the name of Karlyn Langridge, who was visiting Dominica with her 27-year-old boyfriend, both of whom hailed from British Columbia in Canada and were in the Roseau Valley to explore its canyons and take in the natural beauty of the region.
Inspector Fixton Henderson explained that the incident occurred at around 1:30 pm, on Thursday, 28th December 2023, while Langridge was rappelling down from Trafalgar Falls. The couple were canyoning in Roseau Valley during their vacation, prior to the unfortunate incident when Karlyn became unresponsive. “Karlyn was rappelling a waterfall at Trafalgar when she became unresponsive. She was assisted by local tour guides and the first responders of the fire and ambulance services at the scene. However, she remained unresponsive.”“The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force investigates this fatal incident and expresses its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased Karlyn Langridge of Canada.”
Langridge was transported to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital’s emergency department where she was examined before being declared dead by the doctor on duty.The Dominica Police Force is investigating the matter at Trafalgar Falls but the initial reports do not suggest that any foul play was involved in this unfortunate incident.
The incident comes as quite a shock as the couple were accompanied by local guides and tour of the valley was expected to be relatively uneventful. The incident has highlighted the growing need for better safety measures at adventure tourism sites as the nation continues to draw an ever-increasing number of adventure sports enthusiasts to its shores.Despite the fact that guides and emergency responders were quick to reach Langridge and make attempts to revive her, they could not save her life.
Following this incident, the authorities have offered their condolences to the bereaved and are looking into the matter with the utmost seriousness, to ensure that the case is investigated thoroughly.
