The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority celebrated one year of connectivity of British Airways’ service linking Guyana, Saint Lucia and London. The service began on March 27, 2023 with Saint Lucia serving as a connecting point between the two countries.
The Authority said that it has been an incredible journey so far over the last year as they marked the first anniversary of British Airways’ groundbreaking service connecting the two Caribbean nations with London. While talking about the service, the SLTA said that since the launch of the historic flight route, they have witnessed a remarkable transformation in travel dynamics, cultural exchanges and trade partnerships like never before.
The Authority outlined that since its launch Saint Lucia has experienced an amazing 288% increase in travellers from the Guyana market since the introduction of this flight. They said that this surge in arrivals shows not just a rise in tourism but also a strengthening of economic ties and opportunities for both nations. As the service started, it was anticipated that will be the beginning of a beneficial partnership for the two Caribbean countries as the two continue to develop their individual successes and the anticipation has turned out to be true. The passengers aboard the inaugural flight included Saint Lucia’s Minister of Tourism, Ernest Hilaire; Chairman of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, Oneidge Walrond; Independent Senator, Thaddeus Antoine and CEO of the Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association, Noorani Azeez and Guyana’s Honorary Consul to Saint Lucial, Lokesh Singh.
Notably, the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority is working consistently to expand their collaborations with international airlines and bring more tourists to the island nation. In December 2021, the island also welcomed the return of service of Virgin Atlantic after it ceased its operations for a 21 month period.
The return of such major airlines to the small island nation of Saint Lucia marks the island’s increasing presence on the international map.Latest
