Barbados FM gives farewell to Republic of Korea’s Ambassador

Barbados Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. Jerome Walcott, gave a farewell courtesy call with the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador, Moonup Sung, who was based in Trinidad & Tobago during his 3 years of tenure.

Barbados: Barbados Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. Jerome Walcott, gave a farewell courtesy call with the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador, Moonup Sung, who was based in Trinidad & Tobago during his 3 years of tenure. Minister noted that he looks forward to enhanced bilateral relations between Barbados and the Republic of Korea. Additionally, Minister Walcott acknowledged the Korean Ambassador for the work done in the region for 2019 and for the humanitarian support given in 2020 to Barbados, in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The Minister remarked the money received was “well spent” on medical supplies and equipment. While the farewell courtesy call, Minister Walcott showed the hope that there would be opportunities for the exchange of technical expertise in areas such as renewable energy & that cultural exchanges could be mounted in the arts, film, taekwondo and other regions. In reply, Ambassador Sung, who is accredited to four other Caribbean islands, particularly Trinidad & Tobago, Grenada, St Lucia also St Vincent and the Grenadines, affirmed that he enjoyed working with Minister Walcott and the Ministry’s team during his term.  He assured that his nation would continue to play its part in strengthening relations among the 2 countries, including efforts to promote global trade & the continuation of its Masters’ Scholarship Programme. The outgoing representative congratulated Barbados for its handling of the coronavirus pandemic and attaining leadership for hosting the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD 15).  Other matters discussed amid the courtesy call included: Double Taxation Agreements, eligibility guidelines for Official Development Assistance; Green Climate Fund; ICT & Climate Change.
