Bahamian Devynne Charlton secures gold in 60m hurdles at World Athletics Championships
Bahamas: Devynne Charlton of The Bahamas proudly won the gold medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships. The athlete set a new world record in the women's 60-meter hurdles final at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland, on Sunday. She ran impressively and secured her first global title.

Charlton clocked 7.65 seconds to better by three-hundredths the previous best she set at last month's Millrose Games in New York.

Charlton, who had spoken of the need to "fix her start" after qualifying only seventh in the morning heats in 7.93, got away superbly and was never seriously threatened as she finished clear of the French athlete who had beaten her to this title two years earlier in Belgrade, Cyrena Samba-Mayela.

The French athlete Mayela stood second and grabbed a silver after running at a time of 7.74 minutes while Poland's Pia Skrzyszowska claimed bronze in a time of 7.79.

Charlton's remarkable performance has brought honour to the Bahamas and serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes nationwide.

Following this victory, Devynne Charlton said, "I mean, I set the goal at the end of at the end of last season that I wanted to come out here, be a world champion, be a world record holder and just put the work in behind it."

She said that she figured that she was in the same shape as she was in New York and Madrid and thought that the three rounds would have been tricky but if she managed those, she would be okay in the final.

Charlton started her race with a prayer to god and now she is the number one in the world with the best time ever. She is the third Caribbean women to have secured the medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships.

Thea Lafond of Dominica and Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia also won the historic gold medals. LaFond's triumph in the women's triple jump brought Dominica its first-ever gold medal, while Alfred's victory in the 60-meter sprint brought Saint Lucia to new heights.
