Jamaica: A dentist from America was on Monday fined a whopping $52,000 in Jamaica after she was captured in a viral video stripping naked at the Sangster International Airport (SIA) in Montego Bay, St James.  According to the reports, the woman had a mental breakdown at the airport, which is why she behaved that way.  The incident took place on Tuesday, last week, around 11 am, when the dentist was in the departure terminal, preparing to board a United Airlines flight to Las Vegas, Nevada, suddenly started shouting at another woman.  After a few minutes, the airport officer tried to intervene and stop her from shouting, which resulted in the woman removing her clothes and throwing them on the onlookers. The woman also got into a physical altercation with an officer who tried to restrain her. After several minutes of confrontation, the thirty-nine-year-old Sophia Quinn of Nevada was restrained and escorted to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where she received medical attention.  She was subsequently arrested and charged with Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, and Indecent Exposure. After the incident, a three-minute-long video of the woman went viral on social media, which showed her shouting and stripping at the airport.  She appeared before the St. James Parish Court on Monday, January 29, where she pleaded guilty to the charges laid against her. The judge ordered Quinn to pay a sum of $52,000 in relation to the charges. During her hearing in the court, Quinn pleaded guilty to the charges and her attorney, Mark Williams, assured the magistrate that despite concerns regarding her ability to respond to the charges, she was fit and capable to enter a plea.   She added that her client was also taking medication for anxiety, following which the judge Grant-Pryce ordered the American dentist to pay the following fine or spend time in jail. The order was as follows:
  • Pay a fine of $50,000 or spend 20 days in jail for resisting arrest
  • $1,000 or five days in jail for indecent exposure
  • $1,000 or five days in jail for disorderly conduct
