Jamaica: An American Airlines flight 850 from Miami veered off the runway at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Jamaica, amid heavy rainfall. The passengers described the landing as very rough and scary.

According to the information, the flight landed around 9 35 pm which already 1 hour 46 minutes later than it had been initially schedule to arrive because of the sudden weather conditions disrupting the flight’s landing. The delays were also because of the some disruptions at the Miami International Airport.

A representative of the airline confirmed that no injuries were reported, and the passengers got down without any issue.

Grass stuck in the tyre of the airplane

The official noted that the flight from Miami to Jamaica briefly exited the runway after landing, and as the aircraft taxied to the gate under its own power, passengers deplaned as usual. He also said that safety is their top priority and apologized to the customers for their experience.

While the airline did not reveal the reason behind the plane veering off the runway, a passenger reported that the flight experienced major turbulence because of the weather conditions.

She explained that as soon as they got onto the flight, the pilot came and said that they were experiencing thunderstorms over Cuba which is why they can’t fly there and they will have to go around which would make the trip of 2 hours and 12 minutes instead of the initial 1 hour and 44 minutes time.

She continued to say that even the seatbelt sign was on for maybe an hour and a half and usually it get turned off after an hour but because of the turbulence it remained on for long.

The passenger also said that things worsened as the flight reached Jamaica and the flight was taking dips, making the people onboard panic and shout ‘Jesus.’

It is to be noted that this is the second such incident involving an American Airlines flight at Jamaica’s airport, with a similar event taking place back in December 2009.
