Spokesperson on Housing of Democratic Labour Party
Bridgetown, Barbados: The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) stated that the current Barbados Labour Party (BLP) administration had promised to provide housing to Barbadians, but they have failed in facilitating the requirements of the public. In a recent press release, DLP stated that while they (DLP) believe in investing in the people through affordable and high-quality housing, the ruling party thinks otherwise.  "We wish to ascertain from this current administration the status of housing in Barbados, particularly related to the lower-income and middle class." stated Democratic Labour Party (DLP) on Thursday. DLP stated that the ruling Barbados Labour Party (BLP) administration had promised to build “thousands” of houses over the next two years, but Barbadians are left doubtful as there is little indication that housing is a priority of the administration. In a recent press release, DLP added that Barbadians need immediate and actionable plans that will deliver the security of homeownership that many so desperately need. "Barbadians also want to ensure their tax dollars are appropriately spent, with the appropriate contractors for the job." added DLP. Democratic Labour Party stated that the optics were on show at the housing Fair at Lancaster/Dean’s town where ordinary Barbadians were promised land but were suddenly, and without a valid explanation, told that only houses will be built and that house spots are no longer available. The DLP asked the government to reveal the names of contractors assigned to these projects along with informing the public about the tendering process, completion and costs attached to these projects at Kings Village/White-park Road and Lancaster. Democratic Labour Party also called on the government to bring in the public domain whether the development at Lancaster/Deans Town been offered to the upper-middle-class or will still become available to the average working-class Barbadian DLP stated that Barbadians have had enough overly repeated promises, and the BLP can no longer hide under the guise of Covid but must tell the public how they are working for the people of Barbados, particularly as it relates to providing high-quality and affordable housing.
