St Kitts and Nevis announce diplomatic ties with Mozambique

A ceremony in London has marked the formalising of diplomatic relation between St Kitts and Nevis and southeastern Africa’s Mozambique.

Kevin Issac, high commissioner of the Caribbean islands to London, was joined by his opposite number from Mozambique, Filipe Chidumo, at the federation’s London outpost for the signing of official documents.

As Commonwealth partner countries, St Kitts and Nevis and Mozambique already work collaboratively in championing common causes, such as sustainable development and the vulnerability of small states.

Chidumo acknowledged this duringg his brief remarks, stating that although it was not a prerequisite for cooperation, he praised the importance of the formalising of relations as a symbol of the two countries intent to cement their relationship.

Isaac sad that the signing “marks another important step in allowing our two countries to build greater awareness about opportunities for our peoples and to benefit from our shared experiences and cooperation.”

Going forward St Kitts and Nevis and Mozambique have an opportunity to build greater people-to-people links and government-to-government partnerships, he added.
