Infosys to Pay Rs 5.6 Crore to California to Settle Worker Misclassification, Tax Fraud Charges

Infosys, India's top IT major, has consented to pay USD 800,000 to settle charges of misclassification of remote labourers and assessment extortion, authorities declared Tuesday.
Infosys will pay California USD 800,000 (almost Rs 56 crore) to determine claims that somewhere in the range of 2006 and 2017, around 500 Infosys representatives were working in the State on Infosys-supported B-1 visas as opposed to H-1B permits, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said.
This misclassification came about in Infosys keeping away from California finance duties, for example, the joblessness protection, handicap protection, and work preparing charges.

"The present settlement demonstrates that endeavouring to dodge California law doesn't pay.
