On Wednesday, Prime Minister of Jamaica Dr Andrew Holness declared that the "no movement days" will be extended to an additional period of two weeks. He said actions are necessary to minimize the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Prime Minister stated that to allow persons to prepare for the three consecutive no-movement days, all workplaces and businesses will be required to close at midday on Friday.

He said the regular curfew hours would be 7 pm to 5 am the following morning on Wednesdays – Fridays and 6 pm on Saturdays.

Prime Minister noted that the vaccination programme will continue with full force despite the extended curfew hours. He said certain vaccination sites will remain open during curfew hours and on no movement days. Persons who wish to receive the vaccine will be allowed to do so during curfew hours as was done over the last two weeks.

Besides this, the existing work from home directive in the public sector is also extended until September 17, 2021.

PM said all heads of agencies and permanent secretaries are asked to ensure that only people who operate critical service delivery and some other specific work nature professionals to be allowed work from the physical location.

"For the private sector, I am making a strong appeal to companies to ensure only persons who cannot work from home come to the workplace." stated Prime Minister Holness.
